Fashion to me is more than just wearing articles of clothing. I love to think of fashion as if it is your own way of self expression. To me, it is like a wearable art form and you are the artist of this wearable art form.

In art, each artist has their own preferred medium they use to create art which helps make their art theirs. Some use pencils, some use paint and others even use recycled materials. I think that applies to fashion. Each person has a part of their outfit that they focus on to make that outfit their own. Some people focus on the clothing pieces, some focus on shoes and others focus on accessories.

I believe that whatever a person chooses to focus on makes the outfit truly theirs. Personally, I am an accessories girl. I love keeping the clothing pieces rather simple and using accessories to spruce it up. It makes outfits versatile depending on what accessory you choose for different occasions.

I have a very casual style most of the time so my favorite accessories are printed socks and caps. 90% of the time, I am most likely wearing printed socks, a cap or even both.  If you need proof of my devotion to these accessories, the photos you see in this blog post are actual photos from my instagram.

(Shameless self promotion here but it's @sofi.aww if you want to check my IG out. It would be much appreciate if you would follow me!)

In these chosen photos, I give you a glimpse at my everyday style. Minimal and simple clothing pieces, a neutral color palette with some pops of color and cool accessories is how I summarize my outfits in a few words.

Whenever I buy both printed socks and caps, I always go for ones with one-of-a-kind designs and prints.

My sock collection is a mess of different types of socks. My personal favorites are the ones seen in the photos. Most of my socks are bought online or bought from my trip to Japan.

My caps are all bought online and their designs are usually spin offs of beloved logos or inspired by famous tumblr posts.

This is my own way of making how I dress my own and no one else's. The way how I accessorize gives me a sense of individuality. People who see me everyday remember my cool socks or cap. They know that it is my thing to wear printed socks and a cap with practically everything. Which I personally love.

Sometimes I like to change it up and play with different focal pieces in my outfit but when in doubt, I always stick to the style that I know best.

Sadly, there are sometimes other people’s definition of art is not yours and people will critique art works differently. This also applies to fashion. Not everyone has the same taste as you and may think how you dress is strange.

In my own personal experience, I have gotten looks and whispers from people looking at how I dress and there are times when I can’t help but let it ruin how I felt on that day.
I know that I am not alone in that situation and many of you probably can relate. My only advice for you is to continue doing what you are doing.

Fashion has no rules. It is a form of self expression and like I have said at the start, it is a wearable art form. Do not let anyone dictate what you can and cannot wear. It is and always will be up to you.

There is no real way to combat the looks and whispers you may get from strangers but just remember these are people you are probably never going to see again. However, you will be seeing yourself in the mirror everyday and how can you feel confident and good in your own skin when you don’t like the way you dress? Your biggest critic is yourself. Always remember that.

So please yourself and wear whatever you want. Express yourself through fashion the way you want. Just remember to stay completely true to yourself.

Now let your creativity flow and have fun with your outfits.

Since you are the artist of the way you dress.

Good luck!

"Difficult" Fashion Trends: How to Rock Them With Ease

A lot of people follow fashion trends for inspiration or to fit in with the crowd. Personally, I do not follow them very closely but I have to admit that there are certain fashion trends that I just love and would want to recreate whenever I see photos of models and celebrities rocking them.

There are many trends that have been popping up since its arrival on the runways in the previous years. However, many people find it tricky and difficult to make them work for everyday wear. You are probably reading this because you too are having a hard time but don't you fret because that is where I come in!

Culottes

Culottes are a really fun piece to wear. They are a fun mix between trousers and palazzo pants. They are perfect for people like me who don't like tight bottoms and enjoy versatile pieces.

Due to its seemingly awkward cut and length, many people shy away from them. They get intimidated by its flare cut which ends a few inches below the knee and many people tend shy away from them because people do not understand how to style them for casual wear since they look more formal but I am here to tell you it is totally possible.

There is no actual secret to styling culottes. Culottes are a very versatile piece. You just need to be very adventurous with them and experiment with the pieces you pair with them. To dress down culottes I love pairing them with casual pieces. It add a casual and cool vibe to the culottes. To dress them up, I like pairing them with some nice heels and jewelry. It really all depends on what items you pair with your culottes.

Double Denim

Many would refer to this trend as "The Canadian Tuxedo". It involves mixing clothing pieces of denim together. It is the perfect example of an old trend coming back to life since this trend was popular in early 2000's. Remember that photo of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears with their matching denim outfits? Such a classic.

People may argue that you should never mix denim with denim because it looks tacky but I disagree. When done right, you can create a killer outfit.

The important thing to remember is to play with different pieces. Play with different shades, washes and textures of denim. Mix in different clothing pieces that aren't denim. Avoid using the same shade of denim since it will have nothing to break the different denim articles apart.

Printed Socks

This next trend is not for everyone but is one of my favorite trends. I love this trend because it really adds something different and unique to an outfit. However, it really is one of those things either people love or hate. It involves mixing some cute socks with any type of shoe the trickiest could be using open toed sandals. It is a very popular trend in Japan.

This trend is probably the trickiest of the bunch because you want the entire outfit to complement each other and work as a whole to become a complete outfit but sometimes clashing can happen. People have a problem trying to incorporate this trend to their outfit. I did too but I have figured out the best way to style them.

Socks come in many styles and prints. The best way to incorporate printed socks is by making it stand out and letting it be the focus of your outfit. I keep everything pretty basic and make way for the socks to shine. Like for example, if my socks are blue and yellow, I would keep the outfit within the that color scheme using minimal to no print. You want the socks to be the focus of the outfit in order for the outfit to be cohesive.

Well that is all my tips and tricks in styling these trends! These tips and tricks would be useless without one important thing that everyone must have in order to rock all these trends. The wearer must and should always have confidence! You may have your own tips and tricks that you may incorporate to suit these trends to your personal preference and I want you to use them. It is important to not worry so much about the rules, to wear whatever makes you feel good and to rock it.

The best thing about fashion is sometimes confidence can make an outfit really work. It is important to always own your outfit even if it is breaking the "rules" of fashion. Since fashion is all about how the wearer presents the articles of clothing they mixed together. So always remember to own what you wear!

I hope that my tips and tricks for styling these "difficult" trends helped make them easier. Don't be afraid to experiment and take my tips and tricks another step further. Make these trends your own and always do it with confidence. Now go forth and rock these trends your way!
